Nitronic stainless main shaft with a hex drive and Stub Acme threads on both ends.
This is a main shaft out of Nitronic stainless for a directional drilling tool - a hex drive in the middle and a Stub Acme thread on each end, bored through the centre. Nitronic is strong stuff but it work-hardens fast, so we kept the feeds steady and let the tools cut instead of rubbing. We turned the body and the bore, milled the hex, and single-pointed both Acme threads. Held the diameters to .005.
