This is a steel end cap with a tapered nose. We turned the OD and the tapers, drilled out the big central bore - a large drill hogging most of the middle away - and put in six 1/2-20 UNF tapped holes around it at 60 degrees. Nothing fancy on this one, but that big central hole moves a lot of chips, so it's about steady feeds and clearing swarf. After machining it goes out for electroless nickel plating through our plating partner.
